About Me

My name is Christine Bertram. I am a Social Policy researcher with a specialism in Welfare-to-Work policies, front-line governance, implementation and process studies. In 2010, I completed my PhD at the University of Stirling and my research topic was how advisers in employment advice and guidance services mediate managerial pressures when dealing with service users.

Recently, I have been swept up in the general turmoil of the funding cuts and my position as a Research Officer has been made redundant. So, here I am, a research subject in my own study interest. I am now on the job hunt, and have been since the writing was on the wall, but life as a junior researcher with a small publication record is tough and competition for the few positions is fierce. Hopefully, I won't be visiting Jobcentre Plus for too long, but until then, it will be an interesting experience.
